“Immersed” was originally completed in December 2025 on 36”x48” canvas. The reference photo was from a hike to Proxy Falls, during an excursion with friends in June 2025. We headed out from our campsite, arrived at the trailhead, meandered through lava fields, old growth forests, and a switchback/obstacle course situation, to arrive at the base of the waterfall. We had been here once before, but on this day, the sun was hitting the falls an illuminating it while the foreground remained mostly shaded.
While the photo doesn’t capture the magnitude and height of proxy falls itself, I feel like it captures the exact kind of feeling and moment that I hope to re-create in my art - The interplay between the sunlight and mist, cool water on the feet and warm sun on the face, tiny mossy-flowers on the boulders and massive trees, the smell of pine and wet moss, and the roar of the water that’s both magnificent and somehow peacefully quiet at the same time - these moments with my kids, watching them soak it all in, while I do the same, is everything.
If you’ve every been in one of these moments, immersed in the forest and feeling yourself be refreshed from the inside out - this one is for you!
